Manufacturing solar case studies
Representative manufacturing solar projects across the UK. The figures below are modelled from real building profiles and typical UK irradiance, and show the kind of system, saving and payback we design and deliver.
620 kW rooftop install for a South East pharmaceutical manufacturer
A life-sciences manufacturer near Reading running cleanroom HVAC, chilled water and compressed air around the clock. The site had a 5,200 square metre membrane roof, a very high flat baseload, and investor pressure to evidence an SBTi-aligned Scope 2 reduction. Change control and validated-utility continuity were the key constraints.
- System size
- 620 kW (1,140 panels, roof-mounted)
- Annual generation
- 560,000 kWh
- Annual saving
- £132,000 (year one, escalating with grid tariff)
- Simple payback
- 5.9 years
Outcome: 88 percent self-consumption on a 24/7 baseload. Connection outage planned inside a validated shutdown with zero GMP impact. Generation data fed directly into the group CDP and SBTi submission.
410 kW install for a North West plastics and injection-moulding plant
An injection-moulding manufacturer supplying automotive and consumer-goods customers, running energy-hungry moulding machines and chillers on a 24/5 pattern. A 3,400 square metre trapezoidal metal roof and a Tier-1 customer requirement to disclose Scope 2 emissions drove the project.
- System size
- 410 kW (760 panels, roof-mounted)
- Annual generation
- 375,000 kWh
- Annual saving
- £86,000
- Simple payback
- 5.6 years
Outcome: 81 percent self-consumption. Funded via asset finance, EBITDA-positive from year one. Passed the customer sustainability audit with on-site renewable disclosure.
230 kW install for a Yorkshire engineering and metal-fabrication works
A sub-contract engineering firm running CNC machining, welding bays and a large compressed-air system in a portal-frame workshop. Daytime-heavy load, ageing electrical supply, and net-zero flow-down requirements from a rail-sector customer. A 2,100 square metre clear-span roof suited rail-fix PV.
- System size
- 230 kW (425 panels, roof-mounted)
- Annual generation
- 212,000 kWh
- Annual saving
- £49,000
- Simple payback
- 6.3 years
Outcome: 76 percent self-consumption. Supply upgrade funded inside the project envelope. Renewable-energy share reported to the customer's supplier scorecard.
